Belize Soup Kitchen

These photographs were taken for the Red Cross in Belize. Belize Red Cross operates a soup kitchen at their headquarters every week on Wednesdays. The soup kitchen is a social service that provides a healthy meal to the elderly and needy in Belize City. Besides serving soup the Red Cross also gives out staples including flour and vegetables to the patrons of the soup kitchen. The soup kitchen is staffed by volunteers and Red Cross employees.

Every week seventy-six year old Mrs. Sanchez prepares the soup. She has been volunteering for the Red Cross for fifty years. She is the daughter of Jamaican immigrants.
