The mission of School on Wheels is the enhancement and enrichment of educational opportunities for homeless children, from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. Our goal is to shrink the gaps in the education of these children and assist them with the highest quality education possible.
School on Wheels provides tutoring services to homeless children through the use of community volunteers at the following locations: Coburn Place Safe Haven, Dayspring Center, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Holy Family Shelter, Wellspring Cottage, Wheeler Mission Care Center, Salvation Army, Indianapolis Public School #14, and Holy Cross Catholic School.
The photos are taken at one of the shelters. The location and the names of the subjects are not included to protect their interests. Many of the shelters that School on Wheels works in are short term shelters, so the turn over of residents is often high. Some of these children are homeless only for a short time, while others are longer term. Thanks to the combination of the efforts of people at School on Wheels as well as their parents these children are keeping up with their education despite their circumstances.
