My Hometown in Black and White

After about ten years of photographing for daily newspapers in four different states Richard Sitler had the opportunity in 2004 to return to his hometown of Knightstown, Indiana and photograph fo the local paper, The Banner. Way before he was born Richard Sitler's grandfather, Robert Sitler wrote for The Banner and then later for the Courier Times. Richard's mother wrote a "Personals" column for The Banner while he was in high school. Also during high school Richard got his first photographs published in The Banner by then editor, Ty Swincher, who has now returned to work as sports editor for the paper.

Knightstown is a town of about 2,000 people and is in the corner of Henry County. The Banner also serves other small area towns including Carthage, Shirley and Kennard. The black & white photographs were all taken while on assignment for The Banner and show the day to day life in small town America. Sitler feels fortunate to have had the opportunity to return home and focus his lens on the lives of friends, family, former classmates and other familiar faces. Hopefully through these photographs you can experience what it is like to live in Knightstown.
